AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A NEW RESEARCH PROJECT AT THE ST. LOUIS PSYCHOANALYTIC INSTITUTE

The St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute has received a grant to support a study of changes in personality traits in psychotherapy. The study is being done in collaboration with Dr. Robert Wallerstein and the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute and is a continuation of research on therapy outcomes initiated at the Menninger Foundation some 30 years ago. The goal of the study is to provide data that demonstrates the effectiveness of psychotherapy and the changes in character traits as differentiated from symptom changes.

We are recruiting 30 individuals ages 22 to 70 who have just started or are about to start individual psychotherapy at a frequency of at least once a week. Individuals in the study will be interviewed yearly while in treatment and in the two years after treatment. The study protects the confidentiality of the treatment. Only the starting and final dates of treatment and the initial and final diagnosis are requested of the therapist. Information from the study’s interviews can be made available to therapists if the patient chooses. Individuals who participate in the study are reimbursed $30 per interview.

If you are interested and wish to get more information please allow your therapist to give us your phone number so we may contact you to explain more about the study.

If you have any questions about the study, please call Dr. Nathan M. Simon at 314-754-3240.
